One year ago, Zachary & Celia performed live at the village church for a fundraiser for the new community project, Friends of Felpham CIC.

With thanks to Rev. John Challis, James Rushman and all at the church who made them so welcome.

‘The Echoing Green’ is a poem by William Blake published in ‘Songs of Innocence’ in 1789. The poem talks about merry sounds and images which accompany the children playing outdoors. Then, an old man happily remembers when he enjoyed playing with his friends during his own childhood. The last stanza depicts the little ones being weary when the sun has descended and going to their mother to rest after playing many games.

Boomkat (UK):

Recorded in St. Mary’s Church in West Sussex, violinist Zachary Paul and organist Celia Eydeland perform a pastoral drone set that fittingly takes its title from a William Blake poem. There’s something about the sound of a village church that’s almost impossible to recreate, so Paul and Eydeland’s half-hour jam, performed as part of a fundraiser, benefits massively from the physical space. Even the organ itself, a Copeman Hart digital instrument rather than a lofty pipe organ, sounds intimate, warm and fuzzy. So much so that its sine-y, bassy tones soften Paul’s flowery violin loops and improvisations.
